momma, he came back!

Luca and Mike were playing outside yesterday afternoon and found another turtle by the house.  Luca was so excited he came downstairs to show me.  He thinks that his turtle friend from the other day came back.

Luca was so excited.  He made the turtle a bed with grass in a box and asked to keep him overnight.

While Luca and I were at Nana and Papa's house this morning Mike gave the turtle his freedom.  When Luca found out he was devistated and has already talked Mike into turtle hunting this afternoon with no success so they have plans to go out looking again tomorrow.

happy birthday nana!

Today is Nana's birthday.  We celebrated Monday while Auntie Rara was up for a long weekend.   Luca had a fun time helping to make the "cuppie cakes" with his auntie.  He also helped with the shopping list on Saturday.  While Auntie Rara was making her list Luca grabbed a piece of paper and made his own which he read off to us:  Chips, Po-tater tots, Waffles, 2 Elephants, a Dinosaur and Butter.

Mom, Rhonda and I spent a fun girls day out in Columbia while Luca had a fun day with daddy and papa.  He got to go on a 4-wheeler ride through the big mud puddles which is one of his favorite new things to do with daddy and fix shingles on the roof with papa.  Sounds like they had a busy day!

a boy and his....turtle

Mike found a turtle on his way down to the barn this morning so Luca got to spend all morning playing with the little box turtle.

After a few minutes Luca stopped being afraid of the turtle scratching him with his fingernails and he started carrying him all over the yard.  He got to climb on the dirt pile which was actually more of a mud pile today after yesterday's rain.

Luca then took the little turtle over to his favorite mud puddle location which was nice and deep this morning.  He had fun putting the turtle out in the middle and then sitting on the side and watching for the turtle to stick out his head and "swim" in the mud puddle.  Then Luca got the idea for the turtle to take his dinosaurs for a ride on his back.

The turtle got buried in my flower pots and taken up on the back porch while we had a snack.  He then wisely saw his opportunity for well deserved freedom and ran away when Luca went inside for a snack refill.

Tonight when we were saying our prayers Luca said "...and thank you for that turtle daddy found on the way to the barn...Momma, I want to find another turtle tomorrow."

sweet snuggles

It was my long weekend to work this past weekend and on those nights I work until 11p so I don't get to put Luca to bed but I always tell him that I'll come snuggle him when I get done with work.  Sunday night when I was going to bed Luca woke up and grinned at me.  He said "momma, are you just coming to give me snuggly bugglys?"  Who could resist!

spring has sprung

Over the last couple of weeks we have had the most beautiful weather.  It seems too early to me but Luca is having a great time getting out and playing, making mud puddles for his trucks, driving his tractor and getting dirty.

While showing Auntie Rara how he drives his tracter over his dirt pile Luca somehow managed to flip the tractor over himself.  To his momma's dismay he hopped right up and said "What did I just do?" and he then immediately hopped back on his tractor to see if he could figure out how to flip it again!

I got my first flower of the spring on Friday while we were playing outside.  Luca knows the way to his momma's heart.

We're making an expanded outdoor area for our many chickies.  I'm sure they will be excited to move back out of the barn although I think they have enjoyed their warmer stall for the winter.  Attached are a couple of videos of Luca playing while we've been working.  He keeps us entertained!

slidey spidey

Luca and I were playing around looking at pictures and videos this morning and I came across this one last month.  He was so silly that morning and was "skating" in the kitchen.

funny man

Luca continues to grow like a little weed.  Sometimes it suprises me when I realize how big he is getting.  He makes me laugh every day with the things he says and does.  He uses such big words! He knows lots of dinosaur names and recently we were reading a book together, I made up a funny name for one and he said "actually, mom, that's a pteradactyl."  When we talk about something we are going to do he frequently says "that would be a good idea".

Last week I was driving the trash down to the road and Luca wanted to play outside so I asked him to stay up near the house.  When I drove back up he was on his way back to the barn with his arms full of about 5 eggs.  His face was beaming and he was so proud of himself for helping!  However, his hands were too full of eggs to shut the nest box when he left the barn so we dropped off his eggs and went out to check the chickens.  About 6 of the hens had hopped out of the coop and were wandering around the barn.  Luckily, Luca is fast enough that he could help catch some and some of the hens were scared enough of being caught by him that the jumped back in.

When he wants to do something he likes to say "Absolutely, I would like that."  It seems there is something new almost every day and I must get back to blogging so that I will remember.  I took this scary picture a few weeks ago and I can see a teenage Luca giving me that look.  I don't want to miss a minute of this sweet time when momma is enough.  After all as he told me the other day "someday I'm going to grow up and leave you...on a fire truck."
