mama's helper

Luca came to help me cook dinner earlier this week. It started out simply enough with a pan and a couple of spoons. It then progressed to Luca dragging out every pan under the stove.
He had so much fun stacking the pans and seeing which lids would fit on each one. He was such a good boy I got everything ready for our picnic Tuesday morning. Then I noticed that the pans had become pretty quiet...

Luca found something even more fun than the pans. He figured out that he could crawl up into the cabinet. Up...down...up...down...

up and down. Mama's little helper, my sweet boy.

taking it easy

Luca got a big boy recliner a couple of weeks ago and he is enjoying it. The only thing missing is his remote control!

spring fun

I guess it is technically still spring here but it is already feeling like summer. Luca and I have been spending a lot of time at the park and playing outside. Mike hasn't made it to the park since his second surgery but it won't be much longer.
One day at the park I learned that Luca loves apples after he begged one off of a grandma there. We traded for a cereal bar for her little granddaughter who didn't want the apple. They are now a regular snack in our house!
There is also lots of time for PlayDoh...
and splashing in the backyard...
making big messes...
and wearing our shades!

duck, duck...pigeon?

Luca and I had a playdate with some friends in Belton on Friday morning. It started out as a rainy day but cleared up and was a nice cool morning for playing at the park. I also packed some bread and we stopped to visit the ducks before heading home.

Duck is one of Luca's favorite words recently but he hasn't gotten to see ducks up close. I was afraid they might scare them since ducks searching for bread can be a little overwhelming, but Luca was so excited to feed them! He even laughed when a couple of the ducks stole bread from his hand.

After awhile the pigeons got in on the feast too but Luca was not so interested in them. He kept pointing and saying "duck". For the last few weeks all birds have been ducks despite the fact that he can say "bird" too.

In this picture he was leaning over and running into the ducks making a clicking sound which is the same sound he makes at our bird, Lucy. Luca thinks that is the sound birds make because it is the sound his Lucy bird makes. He's too funny!

Luca has been up to other things this week also. He learned how to climb into the rocker on his own and has been practicing at every opportunity. He likes to climb up and rock on his own. Luca also managed to climb up into our bed today which is quite a feat since it is a raised matress. He figured out how to use the rails as a step. Luca also has renewed interest in books and has started to bring them to me and say "up" because he wants to sit up on the couch and read together.

Mike continues to heal. We are so thankful for the good report from his surgery last week. The doctor did have to extend the incision on his leg though so he will have a nice big! He also has staples this time...eww! I'm such a good nurse!

bluebonnets

Spring has definately sprung here in Texas. The weather has been beautiful in the mid 70's, we've been spending lots of time at the park. Even I have to admit that the flowers are beautiful. Last spring there were not many bluebonnets for some reason but this spring they are everywhere. I had to take a few minutes to get some pictures of Luca with them.

easter

Luca had fun hunting for eggs Easter morning before mama had to go to work. He had fun picking up his eggs but we had to help get them into the basket for him. He just wanted to sit the egg back down and grab another one. That is, until he got an egg open. Then he just wanted to open every egg and eat candy.

Luca has really been chatty today and has been using all his words. I have been trying to remember everything he says. Mama, mommy, daddy, up, sock, bubble, duck, dog. Tonight while he was playing with Mariah, our babysitter, he said bottle and started trying to say backpack.
Today we had a good time playing at storytime. Tuesday the boys went for a haircut. Luca wasn't sure he wanted to do it this time but he thought it was fun to watch daddy get his hair cut. And he was easily bribed into complying with the help of a lollipop!
